Should I take the SAT or ACT?

Most colleges have no preference, so you should take the exam that you can do better on. This is different for each student so it is recommended that you take both. Colleges will only consider your highest score.

Note that as of March of 2022, CSU and UC campuses are test blind and do not require either the SAT or ACT. Many other private and out-of-state universities also no longer require the exam. Make sure to look into each school's admissions requirements to see if and/or which exam a school may require.

When should I take the SAT and/or ACT?

Sophomores: Take the PSAT to practice for the SAT

Juniors: In the fall, take the PSAT/NMSQT to practice for the SAT and potentially earn scholarship money.
In the spring, study and take the SAT and ACT and then retake the exam you prefer

Seniors: In the fall, if you want to improve your scores, study and retake the SAT or ACT
