Work Permits

Before beginning the work permit process, you must first GET HIRED

 

Please complete these two forms.

 

1- STATEMENT OF INTENT TO EMPLOY MINOR AND REQUEST FOR WORK PERMIT

 

2-EUHSD WORK PERMIT GUIDELINES

 

 

HOW TO OBTAIN A WORK PERMIT FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR

 

1. Pick up packet in the College & Career Center or Counseling Office

Print Statement of Intent to Employ a Minor and Request for a Work Permit
  1. Student completes and signs the Minor’s Information section. It is mandatory to provide the social security number. 
  2. Student completes the School Information section. If you use the attached PDF, that is already filled in for you.
  3. Parent/Guardian completes and signs the third section.
  4. Employer completes and signs the fourth section.
  5. Leave the “For authorized work permit issuer use ONLY” section blank.           
 
2. Print EUHSD Work Permit Guidelines
  1. Make sure you read the entire document before signing.
  2. Student signs the bottom of the document. 
  3. Parent signs the bottom of the document. 
 
3. You can drop the forms off in-person at the College & Career Center, wait 2-3 days before checking in with the College & Career Tech about the status of your work permit. Once the work permit is ready, you can pick up a copy. 
 

Important Work Permit Notes 

  • All minors under age 18 (including minors employed by parents) must have a work permit.
  • Minors must meet mandatory school attendance laws and meet adequate academic progress in order to obtain work permits. Schools have the legal right to restrict or reduce the type of employment and/or the hours of work if evidence is shown that the schoolwork of the minor is being impaired by the employment. 
  • Escondido Union High School District issues work permits for minors residing within the district boundaries and enrolled in district schools. 
  • Work Permits must be renewed at the start of the school year or when the student obtains a new job. Current work permits expire August 16, 2023.

 

 

Ages 16-17

  • 4 hours maximum per day Monday-Thursday
  • 8 hours maximum per day Friday-Sunday
  • 32 total hours per week 
  • Hours must be completed between 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.  
  • Hours can be 5 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. if no school the next day (Fri/Sat nights)     

 

Ages 14-15

  • 3 hours maximum per day Monday-Friday
  • 8 hours maximum per day Saturday-Sunday
  • 18 total hours per week 
  • Hours must be completed between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

 

Please plan ahead, it can take up to 72 hours to process a work permit

Work Permit Requirements

 

Work permits are considered a privilege and will only be issued to students who meet the following criteria:

 

Satisfactory academic progress

Maintaining a GPA of 2.0 or higher & passing a minimum of 4 courses during the latest 6-week grading period of the regular school year at its corresponding high school of the EUHSD.

Satisfactory attendance

Not being classified as “habitually truant” or “excessively absent” as determined by the guidelines of the EUHSD & its corresponding high schools’ Attendance Office.

  1. Students failing both academic and attendance requirements will NOT be issued a work permit.
  2. Students failing to meet one of these requirements may be considered for issuance of a “probationary” work permit for a maximum of six weeks.
  3. Failure to maintain the district standards during any 6-week period will result in either the work permit being placed on probationary status or revoked.
  4. Grades will be checked within one week following the end of each grading period.
  5. Parents and employers will be notified of all work permits being placed on probation or revoked.
