For Thursday, you will need to....provide a typed draft in which you
1. begin with the evdience typed out like a specimen for us to consider
2. follow this "chunk" with a separate line in which you type out your proposed claim
3. leave a space, and then provide at least half a page (200 plus words) of claim discussion--no evdience discussion--only claim discussion (push yourself to truly discuss, explain, and develop your claim)

This work will receive completion credit in the Tests/Essays postion of your grade (45%).

The book tests which they took on their first SSR book (if they had not done a book talk) on 16 September 2010 were also returned.

For homework, students need to type up a complete rough draft of "Writing about a Piece of Evidence in Lord othe Flies" (see attached file for a copy).
This work will recieve a completion grade which will go into the test/essay portion of the grade.

Students were also given a rubric which will be used for the final draft due on Friday.

Due:

Assignment

In class on Friday, we turned in the final draft of Writing About Evidence in Lord of the Flies Part I.
This weekend, you will start working on Part II.

We wrote a model together.
Then you wrote a long paragraph using my claim and choosing one of two pieces of evidence.
This time you are doing the entire thing "independently."

On Tuesday you must bring in a whole TYPED page in which you-- discuss the context, provide a restatement, discuss the connotations of the keyword, and address the significance of a single piece of evidence.
This work is a rough draft for which you will recieve completion points.

We also spent a good chunk of time work intensely on writing about evidence. There were many handouts. (See below.)

Prepare the notes for Socratic Seminar--see attached if you misplaced your copy.
I expect that these sheets will be filled with copious comments...you may not be able to discover the significance of each passage but you should be able to:

1. identify the context (what is going on at this moment in the text?)
2. understand the meaning (can you restate this passage in your own words? can you explain what you believe the author means? have you looked up any words you don't know--words that seem important to understanding the meaning?
3. identify the key word or phrase (can you explain why a certain word or phrase seems most important in this passage?)
