All Quiet on the Western Front
Writing Response to a Passage: Number #4

"Do I walk? Have I feet still? I raise my eyes, I let them move round, and turn myself with them, one circle, one circle, and I stand in the midst. All is as usual. Only the Militiaman Stanislaus Katczinsky has died. Then I know nothing more” (291).

In a carefully written and thoughtfully organized paragraph, please answer the following questions. Who is the speaker of the above passage? What is the context of the above passage? What is the speaker trying to explain to the reader? Why is this passage significant?

1. The All Quiet Examination is on Friday, 11 December 2009.

2. The cumulative final examination which will cover both A Farewell to Arms and All Quiet on the Western Front will be on Wednesday, 16 December for period one and Thursday, 17 December 2009 for period five. No students will be allowed to take an early examination.

3. If a student has not yet done a book talk for SSR book #3 by Monday, 14 December 2009 at 4:00 p.m.-- that student will take a writing book test on Tuesday, 15 December 2009 while other students use the class time to review for the final examination.

4. NO MORE LATE WORK OR MAKE UP WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED THIS SEMESTER. As you all know, Saturday, 5 December was your last chance to come in and complete or make up missing assignments. Twenty-eight students came and worked hard for four hours. I am very proud of you for coming!!!
