Dr. Pilar Vargas, Principal
 
Welcome to Orange Glen High School. I am Dr. Pilar Vargas, OG's new principal. I am excited to be a member of the team of this school and to be a part of this community. I have been working in education for over eighteen years, and support students from different backgrounds and families with different stories. I am the daughter of migrant workers who worked hard to become educators themselves, and who instilled an appreciation of learning and their culture in their children. I learned this tenacity from my parents and used it to further my own goals in education, to where I earned my doctorate from UCSD in 2019. I believe that students are the focus of a school and work hard to ensure that they are supported in their academic and social emotional needs.  I also believe that  family support and involvement is crucial to student success and are a vital part of our community.
 
Bienvenidos a Orange Glen High School. Yo soy Dra. Pilar Vargas, la nueva directora. Estoy tan orgullosa de ser parte de este equipo de la escuela y de la comunidad. Empecé en educación hace dieciocho años, apoyando alumnos con diferentes historias y familias con diferentes experiencias. Yo soy la hija de trabajadores migrantes que también a fuerzas, fueron a la universidad para ser educadores y maestros. Mis padres inculcaron un amor de aprendizaje y de nuestra cultura en las vidas de mi y mis hermanas. Yo aprendí esta tenacidad y lo use para lograr mis metas en educación, hasta que obtuve mi doctorado de UCSD en 2019. Yo creo que los estudiantes son el enfoque de una escuela y trabajo duro para asegurar que son apoyados en sus necesidades académicas y también en el social emocional. También creo que el apoyo familiar y su intervención es crucial al éxito del alumno y son una parte vital de nuestra comunidad. 
 
This school year is unlike any other, and I want to make sure that the information and support I provide is consistently accurate and honest. There is so much uncertainty going on in the world right now, but my responsibility is to provide this community and its staff all the necessary information to make informed decisions about their students, their families, and their educational future.  As we begin the new school year, my goal is to provide an open line of communication with staff, students, and families so that together, we can ensure quality educational experiences and support for our students in these challenging times.   
 
Este año escolar es diferente a cualquier otro, y quiero asegurarme de que la información y el apoyo que proporciono sean consistentemente precisos y honestos. Hay tanta incertidumbre en el mundo en este momento, pero mi responsabilidad es dar a esta comunidad toda la información necesaria para tomar decisiones informadas sobre sus estudiantes, sus familias, y su futuro educativo. Mi objetivo al comienzo del nuevo año escolar, es tener una línea abierta de comunicación con familias, alumnos, y el personal de la escuela para que juntos podamos garantizar experiencias educativas de calidad y apoyo para nuestros estudiantes en estos tiempos difíciles.  
 
We will begin our school year on distance learning and our teachers have been working to enhance  curriculum and supports for students during these times. Teachers miss their students, students miss their friends and teachers, and we miss having those interactions that matter to us more than we knew. We will continue to work and support our students through distance learning and beyond, while ensuring everyone is safe.

Vamos empezar este año en el aprendizaje de distancia y nuestros maestros han trabajado bastante para mejorar el plan de estudios y el apoyo a los estudiantes durante estos tiempos. Los maestros extrañan a sus alumnos, los alumnos extrañan a sus amigos y maestros, y nosotros extrañamos tener esas interacciones que nos importan más de lo que sabíamos. Continuaremos trabajando y apoyando a nuestros estudiantes a través del aprendizaje a distancia y más allá, mientras nos aseguramos de que todos estén seguros. I am truly excited to be a part of the Patriot Family and to begin my journey as a member of this community.
